Oatmeal Spice Dog Bone Treat Recipe

My mom recently visited us for the holidays and had clipped a dog treat recipe from an issue of Woman’s Day. She decided to whip up a batch of the treats for Bobby and they turned out great (he loved them). And since everyone on our street owns dogs, we decided to make extra treats and hand them out to our neighbors.

Oatmeal Spice Dog Bone Recipe

4 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups old-fashioned oatmeal
1 1/4 cups water
1/4 cup minced apple
3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon ground cloves

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. I found that the dough wasn’t wet enough, so added a bit more water to make it all stick together. Roll dough on floured surface to 1/4″ thick. Use cookie cutters to cut into bone shapes. Place cookies on ungreased foil-lined cookie sheet and bake at 325 for 30-35 minutes. Makes 5-6 dozen.

The treats smell great and I had to nibble one of them …. yuck! Not for human consumption :-)
