It seems like forever since I put on a Food Fight … actually, it’s been 1 year since I started the food event. I held it for 2 months then took off the summer from food blogging due to work.
So, now that I’m back in the saddle, I decided to revitalize the Food Fight and found a few willing souls to expose their pantries and recipes. There may only have been a few of us, but it’s the quality not the quantity that matters, right? This round-up includes great dishes but also a glimpse into the pantries behind them.
Food Fight details for the March event coming soon :-)
UPDATE: I just found a hand full of submissions in my email spam folder (typical Monday). I’ve updated the post to include those I found — if you submitted a post and don’t see it, please let me know. So sorry for the issue — I found lots of other ‘good’ emails hiding in there too. Ugh!
A big thank you to all the participants:
1. Tagliatelle with Smashed Peas, Sausage, and Ricotta Cheese
by Ani of Foodiechickie
Ani responded quickly to the Food Fight and she made her take on a Giada recipe. I think Giada would be proud of what you whipped up from your pantry!
2. Lentil Soup
by Steph of A whisk and a spoon
Steph is a former Food Fighter and she created this wonderful lentil soup from what she had on hand. And although she thinks her pantry is messy, I don’t think so at all! I am curious what’s in the tub on the middle shelf on the back right side :-)
3. Mattar Tofu with Chana Masala Chutney
by Laura of The spiced life
Laura made this amazing tofu dish based on her favorite Aloo Mattar. The tofu glazed in tamarind chutney creates a flavorful dish with alot less starch than the original. And, from the looks Laura’s pantry, she could make alot of great dishes without having to run to the store!
4. Brownies and Granola
by Alison of Someone’s in the kitchen
Alison is new to food blogging events and luckily stumbled upon the Food Fight. She shares many pics of her pantry, one of which is below:
5. Baked White Beans with Tuna and Sage
by Holly of PheMOMenon
The phenomenal Holly of PheMOMenon created a savory bean and tuna dish featuring my favorite herb sage. Like any wonderful mom, her pantry is stocked and ready for any situation!
6. Tomato Herb Polenta & Poached Egg
by Kelly of Sounding my barbaric gulp!
Kelly also considered making a bean and tuna dish similar to Holly’s, but opted to go in a different direction. I love her use of polenta and find it a frequent ‘go-to’ ingredient in my house too.
7. Lentil and Walnut Pate
by Johanna of Green Gourmet Giraffe
Johanna made a great looking pate, along with some tasty looking chickpea muffins. Her pantry is loaded up with all sorts of gluten free goodies!
8. Cucumbers with Yogurt and Zatar
by KCof Kits Chow
It was KC who saved the day — she alerted me that recipe wasn’t in the round-up, which led me to discover all the missing entries. Thank you, KC!
In looking through KC’s pantry pics, you’ll see lots of good items … and also the moldy duck :-) I’m so glad you didn’t decide to use it!
9. Matcha Wasabi Mashed Broccoflower
by Allen of Eating out loud
Here’s what I threw together one night while raiding my pantry for a quick to make side dish. I used a combination of matcha green tea powder and wasabi powder to make a spicy veggie dish.

Haha, Allen, you pegged me right–I live not exactly in the middle of nowhere, but rurally enough that I tend to really stock up on stuff. It makes me panicky to run out of anything–fire roasted tomatoes, Scharffen Berger chocolate, yogurt, beans… you get the idea.
I am pretty new to blogging events–thanks for the nice write up.
I want to participate in the next one. I learned about this one too late, but I will be willing to share my pantry (kitchen cabinet) with the world :-p
This entries look delicious
Great round-up! I thought of joining but I hurt my head thinking of what to do with the stuff in my pantry :) Maybe next time.
My pantry looks most similar to yours among the entries :)
nice round up! good looking food and pantries!
btw, that tub has most of my sweet ingredients (chocolate, dried fruits, some speciatly sugars, etc), so i don’t have to fumble around to much when i’m baking something.
Laura: … you never want to run out of scharfgen berger :-) very wise!
Ben: ok, i’m gonna make you keep your word :-)
Manggy: you are the guru of all things innovative … i think you’re just making excuses Dr. Manguerra!
Steph: Haha — I have a similar tub!
thanks for the round up allen – I can’t resist a neb in others’ pantries – the variety of pantries is great – always seems amazing what can be rustled up on a night when I can’t be bothered going to the shops – and I like the idea of green tea macha (?) in a dip but wasabi might be a bit much for me!
I’m loving this event. Ironically, I’d taken some photos of my fridge and pantry to shame myself into getting organized. GREAT recipes in this round-up. What a cool idea and THANKS for the review of my cookies on Stumble. I’m quite honored for the mention.
Thanks Allen. It was a lot of fun. Everything looks yummers!
