I’m pleased to announce that in addition to my blogging I am spreading my wings and experimenting with freelance writing. Currently, I am a contributing writer with Vancouver-based Suite101.com and exploring other writing opportunities too.
I recently published an article on Reducing Sodium Levels in Processed Foods and note efforts being made by Campbell’s Soup Company. If you haven’t heard, Campbell’s recently announced it’s updating the classic tomato soup by reducing the sodium content 32%. And, over the past four years, Campbell’s has worked to lower sodium in 90 of its US soups.
To celebrate the release of its lower sodium soup, Campbell’s would like to send a care package to one of my lucky readers. The package will include samples from the Campbell soup brands — now that’s M’mm, M’mm good!
To enter the contest please leave a comment on this post mentioning your favorite Campbell’s soup. If you’ve never tried Campbell’s Soup (how long have you lived in the states?), you can provide your favorite flavor of soup. Maybe you’d like to suggest a new flavor for Campbell’s? Go right ahead!
You might win FREE SOUP! :-)
UPDATE September 1, 2009: The contest is now over and I’m happy to announce that the random number generator kicked out #3 (my favorite number, by the way) which is Diana from Cookerati.
Thank you to everyone who participated and especially to Campbell’s for providing this care package!!!

Such a cute giveaway! Congrats on branching out with freelance work. Love your writing so I’m sure you will do well. I love the classic Campbell’s Tomato Soup. How could you go wrong with tomato and grilled cheese?
Tomato Soup is the one I use the most-but always have to have a few Chicken Noodle or Chicken and Stars for the flu season…the kids insist!
Tomato is a favorite in our household.
What a terrific give away!! I’d love to win… I’m a huge soup fan :)
And good luck with your writing!!!
You have such a talent for writting, your new freelancing should be an ultimate success!
I haven’t had canned soup in a long time, but I like the tomato as a soup base and loved the chicken and stars as a kid. I noticed chicken wonton when I was at the store recently, but that will have to wait til the fall.
Tomato made with milk. And a grilled cheese sandwich. Now I’m nostalgic and hungry.
I’d have to say Cream of Mushroom. Mix in some wild rice and I’m in heaven…
Cream of Chicken and Mushroom…..but for some reason, it tastes different in the US (as opposed to Australia)! I’ve always wondered if they tailor tastes in the various markets they are in!
Yay Allen! Great news. I have to admit though that when I saw your “mmm…mmm…good” link on twitter I thought perhaps your account had been hacked again so I didn’t dare to click on it ;)
At any rate I love Campbell’s Tomato soup. It’s a classic and must always be served alongside a grilled cheese sandwich (made with the oh so forbidden white bread) that my grandmother has cut into 9 squares for me. The middle square must be eaten last. Since my grandmother lives in Maine you can see how this might pose a problem, right?
Well, it’s about time. Who needs all that extra salt anyway? It’s because of the high sodium levels that I shy away from canned anything………..but, if I had to choose a flavor of soup it would be split pea or lentil. I love thick, hearty soups.
Congrats to Campbell for taking the leap to the healthy side. I wish more companies would do the same.
I’m just curious as to why you can only have winners in the US when you live in Canada. That’s going to bother me for the next 20 minutes or so. :)
My favorite is probably minestrone. Mmmm soup.
Cream of chicken, broccoli, or mushroom. All in the healthy style – lower sodium and fat. These are so versatile! :)
Yay soup!
Definitely minestrone. (Although I love their chicken soup and their lentil soup too!)
My favorite has to be split pea. It’s perfect for a day like today when I woke up to rain (finally!).
Congratulations on your freelance writing endeavors. I’m hoping to branch out and do a bit of that myself. Let’s see, my favorite Campbell’s soup flavor? Tomato.
I was the youngest of six children and my mother worked. We had a nanny that my mother had to finally fire because of her refusal to make the Tomato Soup with milk. Apparently the stress of having six kids complain about not having the tomato soup they way “you make it” was enough to put my mother over the edge. To this day I make it with milk…oh and for the added touch? A pat of real butter melting on top. Nothing like it!
I agree with Vicki – tomato soup made with milk (or half water/half milk) and a grilled cheese sandwich. One of my all-time favorite meals!
My favorite Campbells soup has eluded me for over a decade. It was cream on onion and it was so good! I think they may have even done a cream of potato with onion, but I could be wrong. The one that brings back memories for me is chicken and stars. I remember coming home for lunch from school and having that for lunch on cold days.
Hey Cory
This is a wonderful post, and with the economy in dire straights, a perfect product to highlight. It is also the incentive I need to start back to work on my own blog. Due to myriad problems which surfaced a few months ago, I’ve been paralyzed with numerous obstacles which have stopped me from photographing and preparing so many of the foods I love. Seeing your post here today about Campbells’s Soup, one of the biggest comfort foods of all time, I’ve decided it’s now time to get back to work……pronto!
I have used all of their cream soups to make wonderful sauces, gravies and as the starting point for many wonderful casseroles. Also, their tomato soup is a must have for my American Chop Suey. I’d be glad to do a full blown post featuring several delicious dishes if I won this give-a-way. If not, at the very least, I thank you for getting me back to the thing I love most…….cooking and baking.
chicken and stars will always be my favorite :)
I always keep some tomato and chicken rice in the pantry for “comfort foods”. but the soup I use the most is golden mushroom. It’s not as overwhelming as the cream of mushroom, and it’s wonderful for crockpot dishes (beef, chicken, pork, veggie) and as a quick gravy or sauce for other meals. Hope some of this one is in the package if I win :)
Congrats and good luck with the freelance work!
Favourite Campbells soup is their Fiesta Vegetable – wild rice, chili, smokey cumin, beans and corn – yum! Compared to its bland Campbells counterparts, I don’t have to add anything more to the soup.
I’d like to see more flavour in Campbells soup line – maybe a poblano soup?
Anything tomato…plain tomato is my favorite. As a kid I liked chicken and stars and alphabet. French onion and split pea with ham both run a close third.
I have to agree with almost everyone else, Campbell’s Tomato Soup and grilled cheese is the meal my hubby makes for me when ever I need comforting. Only now it’s the Healthy Request version with grilled cheese on a whole grain bread! My other go to flavor is the Cheddar Cheese, I use it as a base for my cheese fondue and add beer to it. mmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmm good!(but I do wish they would make a healthier version of it)
A new flavor, hmmm, Cheesy, Corn, Ham and Potato chowder, more comfort food!!! Thanks for a great give-away!
definitely cream of tomato. Love it.
#1 cream of celery #2 mushroom, golden or cream of. these are great bases for so many different recipes…yum!!!
I adore Vegetable Beef. It is my favorite but I also love the chicken soup with stars. It reminds me of when I was little.
Tomato is my favorite of course.
I love to take a can of chicken noodle and add half a bag of frozen mixed vegetables. Mmmm…. green things!
My favorite is definitely Cream of Mushroom soup. As a kid I ate it at least three times week. Then as an adult, I discovered how many recipes it can be added too and improve the taste. It’s a food that I always have in my cupboard.
Freelance writing – great idea! My memories of childhood are happily interspersed with warm thoughts of Campbells’s Scotch Broth soup, my favourite lunch when I came home from school! I loved the little, tender chunks of lamb, the delicate barley and the whole effect of all the parts melded together. Campbell’s soups will always hold a place in my heart!
Tomato of course! It is always a favourite to dunk grilled cheese in on a cold winter’s day.
Well, I only really eat Tomato soup from Cambells as it’s the only true vegetarian one they make. I used to find Tomato and Rice and Tomato Bisque but havent’ seen them in a while, so I buy the plain and jazz it up myself. I could eat tomato soup every day and never get tired of it.
I love Double Noodle:)
Cream of Mushroom.. I use it on everything.
cheddar cheese soup!
Tomato with goldfish crackers. Can’t go wrong.
My favorite is the Fiesta Nacho Cheese soup. It’s getting harder to find though but is amazing in Chicken Enchiladas!
I like their caramelized onion soup!
my favorite has since been discontinued–isn’t that always the way? it was their southwest style pepperjack soup–so versatile and fattening. :)
mmm…mmmm…good, that’s what Campbell’s soup is….mmm…mmm…good!
Chicken Noodle for me! Beats a cold every time. Although in Florida it doesn’t happen as much as when I lived in Nebraska!
Chunky Chicken & Dumplings in deep bowl eaten on the sofa, in January, watching a great movie like Dr. Zhivago. Soup + winter perfect together!
Cream of Chicken
I think their tomato is my first love, but as Italian Wedding is my favorite homemade, I don’t find theirs to be too off the mark. Either works! Congrats on the extra writing work.
mmm Nothing beats Campbell’s Tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich on a cold winter day.
The contest is now closed — I will be drawing a winner and contacting him/her shortly to discuss shipment. Once it’s all finalized, I will post who the winner is!
Thanks to everyone who entered!!!
Vegetarian vegetable! (aka alphabet soup!) I love the alphabet noodles and the chunks of potato and carrot, always a favorite!
I love Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom soup. I remember eating it when growing up with a grilled cheese sandwich. It’s such a smooth, comforting soup full of delicious mushroom flavor. Since I moved to Germany three years ago for my work, I so miss it!! In addition to a bowl of steaming, succulent soup, I am missing out on all those great dishes that use Cream of Mushroom soup as it’s base. I wish Campbell’s would send me some M M Good Cream of Mushroom Soup my way!
