I miss you, Goober Grape!

Moving to Canada from the United States brought with it a sobering reality … not all of my favorite products are sold north of the border. Prime example — Goober Grape.

goober-grapeWhat’s a guy to do? Yes, I know what you’re thinking. I can mix my own peanut butter with grape jelly but there’s some intrinsically special about scooping into the swirled mixture and spreading it on a hot slice of toast.

It was a treat as a child and one reserved for special occasions (or when I was able to beg my mother that it was a must-have). And now that I can no longer access it quickly – it is once again a special treat.

We try to visit the US every couple of months to buy hard to find necessities (i.e. Goober Grape). It’s on my shopping list for our next weekend trip to Seattle!

I have lived in Canada all my life but do remember having Fluffernutter and this jam and peanut butter combo when I was a kid. The powers that be probably pulled it like they pulled Shake-a Pudding.

Geez Allen, we Filipinos can get that here! Maybe you’ll consider coming to my lovely country, dumping ground of multinational companies ;) (naw, seriously, I’ll make sure you two have a great time :)

Oh Allen… I’m a little disturbed ;)

PS: While you’re in Seattle please have a pink Feather Boa doughnut from Top Pot for me.
