Food Fight #3: a pantry raid!


It seems like forever since I put on a Food Fight ... actually, it's been 1 year since I started the food event. I held it for 2 months then took off the summer from food blogging due to work.

So, now that I'm back in the saddle, I decided to revitalize the Food Fight and found a few willing souls to expose their pantries and recipes. There may only have been a few of us, but it's the quality not the quantity that matters, right? This round-up includes great dishes but also a glimpse into the pantries behind them.

UPDATE: I just found a hand full of submissions in my email spam folder (typical Monday). I've updated the post to include those I found -- if you submitted a post and don't see it, please let me know. So sorry for the issue -- I found lots of other 'good' emails hiding in there too. Ugh!

1. Tagliatelle with Smashed Peas, Sausage, and Ricotta Cheese

Ani responded quickly to the Food Fight and she made her take on a Giada recipe. I think Giada would be proud of what you whipped up from your pantry!





2. Lentil Soup

Steph is a former Food Fighter and she created this wonderful lentil soup from what she had on hand. And although she thinks her pantry is messy, I don't think so at all! I am curious what's in the tub on the middle shelf on the back right side :-)






3. Mattar Tofu with Chana Masala Chutney

Laura made this amazing tofu dish based on her favorite Aloo Mattar. The tofu glazed in tamarind chutney creates a flavorful dish with alot less starch than the original. And, from the looks Laura's pantry, she could make alot of great dishes without having to run to the store!

Alison is new to food blogging events and luckily stumbled upon the Food Fight. She shares many pics of her pantry, one of which is below:



5. Baked White Beans with Tuna and Sage

The phenomenal Holly of PheMOMenon created a savory bean and tuna dish featuring my favorite herb sage. Like any wonderful mom, her pantry is stocked and ready for any situation!





6. Tomato Herb Polenta & Poached Egg

Kelly also considered making a bean and tuna dish similar to Holly's, but opted to go in a different direction. I love her use of polenta and find it a frequent 'go-to' ingredient in my house too.





7. Lentil and Walnut Pate

Johanna made a great looking pate, along with some tasty looking chickpea muffins. Her pantry is loaded up with all sorts of gluten free goodies!





8. Cucumbers with Yogurt and Zatar

It was KC who saved the day -- she alerted me that recipe wasn't in the round-up, which led me to discover all the missing entries. Thank you, KC!

In looking through KC's pantry pics, you'll see lots of good items ... and also the moldy duck :-) I'm so glad you didn't decide to use it!





9. Matcha Wasabi Mashed Broccoflower

Here's what I threw together one night while raiding my pantry for a quick to make side dish. I used a combination of matcha green tea powder and wasabi powder to make a spicy veggie dish.

Food Fight #2: mother's favorite dish!

Less than 1 week until Mother's Day and it's time to pick up a greeting card and maybe buy her a gift. If you're stumped on how to celebrate this Mother's Day, you might want to consider making mom a special meal. You'll find some great ideas from the submissions below.

Food Fight #1: Eggs!

The submissions are compiled (in order received) and you'll be surprised with the wonderful assortment of egg dishes submitted! I'll admit ... I was worried at first that no one would respond since I'm new to food blogging. A big thank you to the 13 people who supported this event by participating.

You'll find links to each recipe below along with a link to the posting image. These folks poached, fried, scrambled, and even pickled their eggs. Recipes include several frittata variations, a mud cake, a beverage, casseroles, quiche, fried rice, and a creamy hollandaise sauce. Who knew the egg could be so versatile?
